Ball-badminton double crown for Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur bagged a double by winning both the boys` and girls` titles in the 20th Odisha State Junior Ball Badminton Championship, which concluded at the Permit ground in Balasore today. In the finals, Jagatsinghpur boys beat Cuttack 29-20, 29-26, while their girls` team got the better of Bhubaneswar 29-5, 29-11. Bhubaneswar boys and Cuttack girls finish third in the three-day championship, which was participated by 13 districts.

Among the players, five boys and as many girls were selected for the Junior National Championship to be held at Bhilai from September 19 to 23. The boys include Narendra Sharma, Anup Kumar Nayak (both Cuttack); Ajay Patra, Rajat Kumar Mohapatra (both Jagatsinghpur) and Sumesh Ranjan Patra (Bhubaneswar). The five girls are: Sucheta Parida, Saraswati Samal, Sunita Swain (all Jagatsinghpur); Siren Parbin (Cuttack) and Namita Sahu (Balasore).

Another 10 players, including five girls, were chosen to join a coaching camp for the National championship. The five girls include Manasmita Rout (Dhenkanal), Farin Parbin, Jyotirmayee Behera (both Cuttack); Narmada Das, Bichirekha Behera (both Balasore). The five boys are: Sunil Kumar Behera (Angul), Sujendra Singh (Balasore), Mohit Kumar Sahu (anjam), Asit Kumar Singh (Kendrapara) and Martya Ranjan Sahoo (Dhenkanal).
